ReplyDelete-when verb ends with an unvoiced sound like p,k ,f make the past with another unvoiced sound /-t/
-when the verb ends with /-t/ and d make the past with /-it/

ReplyDeleteFor example:
If the verb finish in t or d, this pronunciation is /-id/
If the verbs finish in p, f, s, ch, k, this pronuntiation is /-t/

DeleteI learned that there are words which have voiced sounds and unvoiced sounds, and you can diference them by feeling the vibrations on your vocal cords.
ReplyDeleteWhen the base verb has an unvoiced ending, the past simple ed ending is pronounce /t/, when it has a voiced ending it is pronounce /d/.
When the base form of the verb finish in /d/ or /t/ (talking about pronunciation, not writing) you pronounce the ed ending like this /id/ and it is also added another syllable.
- When the termination of the word (sound, no letter) is "d" or "t" the pronunciation of "ed" is "id" and the word gets a new syllable
ReplyDelete- There are words who their finish is "ed" and for the rules the pronunciation of their last syllable is "t", but they are exceptionts so the pronunciation of their last syllable is with "id". Those exceptions are: aged, blessed, crooked, dogged, learned, naked, ragged, wicked, wretched,
I learned that regular verbs are divided into voiced and unvoiced, this difference between the verbs is important to know the pronunciation of the word when they are in the past simple.
ReplyDeleteFor example:
-If the ending of the base verb is unvoiced, the past simple ed ending is pronounced /t/.
-If the ending of the base verb is voiced, the past simple ed ending is pronounced /d/.
Also, when the base form of the verb ends in the /d/ or /t/ sound (not letter), the past simple ed ending is pronounced /id/ and we add another syllable.

/T/ when finish in p,sh,ch,k,x,s – UNVOICED SOUNDS
I learned the pronunciation of the regular verbs in past, this pronunciation is depending of the words that ending in present, for example:

-When the verb in present end in voiced sound, the pronunciation in past is /d/
-When the verb in present end in unvocied sound (p,k,sh,ch,f..), the pronunciation in past is /t/

ReplyDeleteWith these lessons I learned how to difference between the letters and how to identify which type is each letter, by putting my hand in my throat and depending on if it vibrates or if it doesn't. That way is, for me, the most simply and effective way to remember which "ed" sound corresponds to each word.
And how the number of syllables can tell me the way to pronounce some word, for example with the "t" and "d" one syllable is added to the pronunciation, but with the other letters it doesn't add any syllable.
