Phrasal verbs 


Phrasal verbs are very important in the English language.  Although they consist of two or more words- usually verb and preposition combinations- they act as if they were one word. 
  • blow up => explode
  • work out => be successful 
Phrasal verbs can be separable:
  • set a meeting up
  • get your point of view across
  •  I turned the volume up
Other phrasal verbs cannot be separated:
  • I have to look after my brother
  • I showed up late
